Hayden became Alan Pardew's first new signing when he arrived on loan from Crystal Palace on 22nd October 2003. Making his Hammers debut on the same day he signed against Nottingham Forest at Upton Park in a 1-1 draw. He had been at Selhurst Park since signing on as a trainee in 1996 and played over 200 games for Palace. He impressed Pardew enough to earn a permanent move and had been a regular in the West Ham side since, playing an important part in their promotion campaign. Hayden’s darkest day came when he was sent off against Liverpool in a league game which ruled him out off the F.A. Cup Final also against Liverpool which was hailed as one of the most memorable in F.A. Cup history. Mullins made 32 league and cup appearances in the 2006–07 season as West Ham narrowly escaped relegation. On 25th January 2009 Hayden joined Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee, signing a three and a half year contract with the Fratton Park club.

Tough-tackling right-back who joined the Hammers on an initial one-month loan from Middlesbrough and made his debut in the 0-0 draw with Cardiff City 25 October 2003. The 24-year-old began his career at Boro as a trainee in August 1997 and made over 70 Premiership appearances for his hometown club, and also played on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. The arrival of England international Danny Mills on Teeside severely restricted Robbie's chances of first-team football, and when Alan Pardew came calling the Scottish international, who has five senior caps to his name, was happy to move south and join the Hammers. Pulled a hamstring in just his second game In the Carling Cup at Tottenham Hotspur. As a result his loan period was extended for a further month to give Robbie a fair chance of being offered a full-time contract with the Hammers. In his absence, Pardew elected to deploy Tomas Repka at right-back and Stockdale made just seven more appearances for the Hammers before returning to the Riverside in February 2004.

Began his career at Doncaster Rovers in 1985, before moving to Sheffield United three years later where he scored 83 goals in 198 League appearances. A £2.9m move to then League champions Leeds United followed in 1993. Brian scored 32 goals in 138 League games for the Elland Road outfit before returning to Sheffield United in 1997. He spent the majority of the following year playing for Portuguese giants Benfica before returning to England to join Middlesbrough for £3m in October 1998. Brian then switched to Leicester City in 2001, where he fired 13 First Division goals to take them back to the Premiership. Deane made his Hammers debut against Coventry City at Highfield Road in a 0-0 draw 1st November 2003. Scored a last minute equalizer against Wigan Athletic on the final day of the 2003–2004 season. This goal sent Crystal Palace to the division one play-offs who ironically beat West Ham in the final. When Brian was brought on as a substitute in the match he received a standing ovation by both sets of fans. After the play-off final Brian was released by the club 3rd June 2004 and ended up returning for a second spell at Leeds United. Later played for Sunderland, Perth Glory and Sheffield United.

He was also the club's top Premiership goalscorer with 15 league goals. He featured another six times that season and went on to make 14 league and cup appearances the following season. He had a loan at Yeovil Town, which lasted from 2005 until 2006. Joined his hometown Swansea City from school making his first five League appearances towards the end of the 1985-86 season from then on he was a regular in the Swan’s eleven. Capped by Wales at Under-21 and full International level he acquitted himself well in the Premiership before a badly broken nose kept him out for the last seven games of his first Premiership campaign. Andy played six games on loan with Bradford City the following season and in the summer of 1999 joined Fulham immediately establishing himself as a regular. Powerful in the air and a defender who always looks to use the ball intelligently he joined the Hammers initially on a one month loan, making his West Ham debut against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane 17th January 2004 in a game which finished 3-3. In the twilight of his career, Andy made a further 21 appearances beofre joining Nottingham Forest on loan and then retired from the game.

Nigel joined Wimbledon from school and soon shone out as a precocious talent. Given his first taste of League football when introduced as a substitute against Barnsley in the final fixture of the 2001-02 season. The following campaign he established himself as a star act in the middle of the Don’s side. Having comfortably made the transition to senior football the England Under-19 international earned a call-up to the Under-20 squad. His move to the Hammers in January 2004 was a big blow to the Don’s and Nigel made his debut for West Ham against Rotherham United at Upton Park in a 2-1 victory 31st January 2004. A natural-born leader, midfielder Nigel became an instant hit with the home fans with a mature, commanding display which resulted in Hammers manager Alan Pardew making him club captain. He scored three times to help the club win promotion in 2004-05 through the play-offs and led the team to the FA Cup Final in May 2006. The 2006-07 Premiership campaign began less successfully for the Hammers, and Reo-Coker was singled out by some groups as being the main culprit for this slump, which left West Ham perilously close to the bottom three and ultimately led to the sacking of manager Alan Pardew. Reo-Coker recovered his form in the latter part of the season and a run of seven wins in nine games saw West Ham escape relegation on the last day of the season. Reo-Coker requested a transfer at the end of the 2006–07 season after the board failed to reassure him concerning his future at West Ham. Aston Villa were reported to have made a £7m bid for Reo-Coker in June and in July 2007, West Ham and Aston Villa reached an agreement in the region of £8.5 million for the signing of Reo-Coker.

Glenn Hoddle Tottenham Hotspur manager was a well-known admirer of Bobby long before he eventually signed him from Brighton & Hove Albion during the transfer window in July 2003 for a bargain knocked down price of £1.5 million. Many clubs showed interest in the young star, who arrived at the Withdean Stadium following a £100,000 move from Bristol Rovers in 2000. Since then he went on to attract rave reviews after scoring 63 goals in two seasons - helping the Seagulls win promotion two years running. Zamora joined Bristol as a trainee in 1999 and had loan spells with Bath and then Brighton - where he scored six goals in six games before joining the Seagulls permanently in August 2000. Unfortunately, his career did not take off at White Hart Lane and in January 2004, he left to join West Ham United in the deal which took Jermain Defoe to Spurs. Made his Hammers debut as substitute against Bradford at Valley Parade on the 7th February 2004 in a 2-1 victory. After a mixed start to life at Upton Park and came close to moving to Stoke City early on in 2004/05. Luckily for the Hammers, he stayed on to score four crucial goals in the play-offs, including the winner against Preston that sent them back into the Barclays Premiership. By the end of the 2007-08 season he and fellow club-mate John Paintsil had joined Fulham in a combined £6.3m deal.

A close friend of Hammers favourite ‘keeper Ludo Miklosko they both came from the northern mining town of Ostrava in Czechoslovakia and came into top class football with hometown Banik Ostrava. Jumped at the chance to become the third Czech goalkeeper in English League football when he signed for Newcastle United for £350,000 in February 1991. Srnicek, tall, agile, with lightning reflexes and an adventurous style became first choice in the Tyneside’s promotion side. Won his first international cap for the Czech Republic in 1994 against Malta. In the summer of 1998 he left St James’ Park after eventually losing his place to his good friend Shaka Hislop returning home to Banik Ostrava. Returned to English football a year later to join Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer. Making 52 appearance before once again returning home. Pavel then spent three years in Italy with Serie A side Brescia, moving back to the UK in September 2003 when Harry Redknapp took him to Portsmouth on a Bosman free transfer as cover to Shaka Hislop. Joined West Ham on loan in January 2004 this time as cover to Stephen Bywater. Made an unexpected debut for the Hammers when he replaced Matthew Etherington after the sending-off of Bywater in the match against Millwall at The New Den where the Hammers lost 1-4 to their South London neighbours 20th March 2004. In all he made 3 appearances for the Hammers before returning to Portsmouth at the end of his loan period. Later played for Beira-Mar and Newcastle before hanging up his gloves to run his Srnicek school of Goalkeeping in Czech Republic.

Ukrainian Sergei Rebrov is the epitome of all that a good striker should be. Fast, skilful and intelligent, Rebrov was been one of the top forwards in Europe, at least until he signed for Spurs in 2000. A national hero in his native Ukraine, Rebrov established his reputation as one of Europe's leading strikers with impressive displays for his former club, Dynamo Kiev, in several Champions' League campaigns. He scored 28 goals in 60 European appearances. Accustomed to success, Rebrov moved to Spurs and London having won everything that there was to win in the domestic game in Ukraine. When he learned of George Graham's interest in him, the Ukrainian international had little hesitation in joining Tottenham and soon became part of Graham's revolution in the summer of 2000. Unfortunately, the move did not work out for either the player or the club. The departure of Graham saw Glenn Hoddle come in, and he did not play Rebrov as much as the Ukrainian would like, and there were rumors that he leave the club in the summer of 2002. Finally, having made no appearances in the Premiership or any other competition during the 2002/03 season, the unhappy striker signed an 18-month loan deal with Turkish club Fenerbahce during the first transfer opening in 2003, with a view to the deal becoming permanent. However, when the loan ended, Rebrov decided that he wanted another chance at White Hart Lane, hoping that he could impress new boss Jacques Santini. That didn't last long though, as he was sold to West Ham in July 2004. Made his Hammers debut against Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium 7th August 2004 0-0. But he didn’t quite manage to make the impact he was hoping for in a claret and blue shirt, with the sparkling form of Teddy Sheringham doing much to restrict his appearances, and the 31-year-old promptly returned to his homeland to join Dynamo Kiev on a two year contract. Later played for Rubin Kazan.

Joined the Hammers from Portsmouth on a free transfer 14th July 2004. Made his Hammers bow against Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium 7th August 2004 in a 0-0 draw. Teddy started his career with Millwall as an apprentice and worked his way through the club junior sides before making his first team debut in January 1984 against Bournemouth. After many years at the Den, Nottingham Forest moved in, paying £2m for his services but although he scored goals for the club he never really settled and 13 months later was back in London - moving to Tottenham. The goals started to flow again and by the end of the 1992/93 Sheringham had rattled in 29 to become the Premiership's "Golden Boot" winner. Though his partnership with Jurgen Klinsmann was perhaps more memorable. At international level Teddy formed another excellent partnership with Alan Shearer, particularly during Euro 96, when he was once more under Terry Venables, his manager at Tottenham. When Sheringham moved to Man United he was initially given the unenviable task of filling Eric Cantona's boots, and not surprisingly he struggled. After a period in the wilderness Teddy came back to confound his critics during the 1998/99 run-in. After coming into the team which won the Premiership, he came off the bench in the FA Cup Final to play a key role in winning that trophy. Amazingly he came off the bench again in the Champion's League Final to alter the course of the game, and United's history, by scoring the equaliser and setting up the winner. From having seen no silverware in his long career, he picked up the game's three most valued trophies within a few weeks. However, at the end of his contract in May 2001, he moved back to White Hart Lane and became a hero once again for the Spurs fans who had jeered him as a United player. After two successful seasons at Spurs, his contract came to an end and it seemed Teddy Sheringham no longer featured in Glenn Hoddle's plans. The newly-promoted Portsmouth were quick to sign the experienced striker on a free transfer, and he immediately became a hit at Fratton Park. In his first four appearances he scored four goals - including a his first hat-trick in three years. However, as the season wore on, Sheringham was less involved at Pompey and with Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Lomana LuaLua forming an impressive partnership up front, it was announced in May 2004 that the England veteran would be moving on again in the summer. West Ham boss Alan Pardew moved quickly to secure the services of the veteran striker, who had been linked with moves to the MLS, Qatar and Coventry City. It turned out to be a great decision as he scored 20 goals to help the Hammers win promotion through the play-offs and earned himself the Powerade Championship Player of the Year award. He will be looking forward to what could be his swansong season in the Barclays Premiership. Released at the end of 2006-07 to join Colchester United as player manager.

A teenage prodigy when he first broke through into the first-team at Old Trafford in September 1999.Luke saw his progression slowed by a succession of untimely injuries and during his last two seasons dropped down the pecking order at United. Luke spent most of the 2002-03 campaign helping Alan Pardew’s Reading to a First Division Play-off place. The then 23-year-old spent 2003 on a similar extended loan deal at Burnley, finishing the campaign as third top scorer at Turf Moor. Returning to Old Trafford , Luke found his chances of first-team football was severely restricted by the emergence odf Darren Fletcher and Ronaldo, and jumped at the chance to link up with Alan Pardew again at Upton Park. An exciting winger, who can operate on either flank, Luke brought much needed balance to the Hammers midfield. Luke made his Hammers debut in a 1-0 victory against Reading in the Coca-Cola Championship at Upton Park 10th August 2004. He went on to enjoy a brief loan spell at Bristol City that year, before returning to Upton Park and grabbing an opportunity to establish himself as a key part of Alan Pardew's team during the promotion success via the play-offs at the end of the 2004-05 campaign. Indeed, it was the solid central defensive partnership he formed with his former youth-team colleague Anton Ferdinand that many people pointed out as a key factor in our triumphant finish to the season. The arrival of Danny Gabbidon and James Collins from Cardiff City curtailed his first-team opportunities at the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign, although he made his Premiership debut as a substitute in the 2-1 home defeat against Bolton Wanderers in August, before heading out on loan again in November, this time to Championship side Plymouth Argyle. The Harrow-born youngster made a big impression at Home Park, winning an immediate place in the team and making 16 appearances as Tony Pulis's team pushed themselves to the verge of the play-off places, before Alan Pardew recalled him at the end of his three-month temporary spell. Elliott was handed his second Premiership appearance in February - against Bolton again - but endured a torrid time as Hammers slumped to a 4-1 defeat, and didn't appear again until the final stages of the season, when injuries to Anton Ferdinand, Gabbidon and Collins saw him step in for the 2-1 home defeat against Liverpool and the 1-0 win in our final away game against West Bromwich Albion. With no guarantee of regular Premiership action the following season, Elliott made it clear that he would prefer to head elsewhere in search of first-team football. Completed a £1million transfer to Championship side Coventry City on the 16th June 2006.

Joined Tottenham Hotspur in August 2004 for £3.5m and appeared for four different clubs during the 2004-05 campaign. After Spurs had signed the giant central-defender they immediately off-loaded him on loan the the Hammers. Calum made his West Ham bow against Sheffield United in a 2-1 victory at Bramall Lane 11th September 2004. Having performed brilliantly and making a total of 10 Coca-Cola appearances the North London club recalled him back to White Hart Lane.

Fletch joined from Bournemouth for £275,000 in August 2004, where he had previously worked with Hammers first-team coach Peter Grant. Carl began his career with the Cherries in 1997 and went on to make 192 League appearances at Dean Court, captaining them to promotion in 2002. Hammers debut in the Coca-Cola Championship against Sheffield United in a 2-1 victory at Bramall Lane 11th September 2004. Comfortable as a midfielder or in the centre of defence, Carl was a versatile member of Alan Pardew’s squad who came into the side to such memorable effect in the Play-off semi-final second leg victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Unable to gain a first-team spot in the newly promoted side, Fletch was loaned out to Watford in September 2005 for a month. Upon his return from Vicarage Road in October 2005, he made 12 league appearances for West Ham. On 13th May 2006, Fletcher was drafted into the West Ham team to face Liverpool in the FA Cup Final due to the suspension of Hayden Mullins. Despite ending on the losing side, he still contributed to one of the best FA Cup finals of modern times. The FA Cup final proved to be his last competitive match for the Hammers, however, as he signed for Crystal Palace in that summer, for £400,000

He made only 46 appearances in 5 years with the Glasgow club, and in September 1998 moved to England, joining Norwich City for a fee of £350,000 after a one-game loan spell. At the end of the 2001/02 season Norwich fans voted Mackay in second place in the voting for Norwich City player of the year. In the 2003/04 season, his sixth at Norwich, the club was promoted to the Premier League after winning Division One, however he was released by Norwich at the end of the season. After being released, Mackay signed for West Ham United for £400,00 in August 2004. Made his initial Hammers debut as an 87th minute substitute against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in a 2-1 victory 11th September 2004. He made atotal of 22 league and cup games and scored two goals for the Hammers, although none after March, as West Ham reached the play-offs, beating Preston North End in the final to reach the Premier League. Chris became Charlton Athletics record signing at £825,000 when he became Alan Curbishley’s first recruit after the club were promoted to the Premiership in 1998. Capped by England five times and made his international bow in a 3-0 friendly win against Spain on 28th February 2001. Made more than 200 starts for Charlton, and had just signed a new one-year contract when the Hammers took him on loan 10th September 2004 and later signed on a free transfer 17th December 2004. Made his West Ham debut in a 1-0 victory against Rotherham United at Upton Park Coca-Cola Championship game 14th September 2004. Helped the Hammers back to Premiership status by beating Preston North End in the end of season Play-off Final at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff. Widely expected to agree a new deal with the club after seeing his short-term contract come to an end. However, the arrival of his former Addicts’ team-mate Paul Konchesky pushed him down the pecking order in the left-back spot and rejoined the Addicts on a free transfer 11th July 2005. Later played for Watford, Charlton (again), and Leicester City.

Mauricio was born in Buenos Aires, and he moved to England in September 1994 when he signed for Ipswich Town from Argentinos Juniors. Transferred to Tottenham Hotspur in November 1998. A steady player who really uses his experience, knows when to sit and mark and when is the right time to break forward. Comfortable on the ball and a versatile player who could play on either flank, in defence or midfield. Signed for the Hammers on a free transfer from Spurs on the 19th November 2004 and made his West Ham debut against Millwall two days later. Forced to retire from the game after 27 minutes after an injury in the 0-1 defeat at the New Den. Mauricio Taricco had his contract at West Ham terminated by mutual consent a week after joining the club. Taricco, 31, decided to quit after the injury against Millwall which could keep him out for eight weeks. The Argentine defender suffered a hamstring tear and decided to have his contract terminated to enable manager Alan Pardew to bring in someone else. "This is one of the most honest acts I have experienced," said Pardew. "When Tanno knew he was going to be out for so long, he felt very uncomfortable about the situation and came to me offering to terminate his contract. "He didn't have to make that decision which shows that his character and personality off the pitch is far removed from the image sometimes portrayed." Taricco, who started over 125 games during a frustrating six-year spell at Tottenham, was hoping to resurrect his career at Upton Park and was naturally devastated with the news of his injury. "I came to West Ham United to be of service to the club, and I obviously won't be able to contribute if I'm having treatment for over two months," he said.

Williams started his career as a YTS player at Hereford United having previously trained with Cardiff City. Made his first team debut at the age of 17. Having played 121 games and scoring 27 goals he moved to Hereford’s rivals Yeovil Town for the 2002-03 season. At Huish Park he was an integral part in the squad which in that season gained promotion to the football league for the first time. It wasn’t long before the Hammers decided to swoop for him, purchasing him in December 2004 for £250,000. Gavin made his Hammers debut on the Boxing Day 2004, coming on as a substitute against Nottingham Forest in a 3-2 win. He made a further ten appearances in West Ham colours, as they gained promotion to the Premiership scoring his only goal against Leeds United on the way. By November 2005 he was loaned out to Ipswich Town after struggling to gain a first-team place. The loan spell was a success and the deal was made permanent in January 2006 for a fee of £300,000.
Newton began his career at the Valley as a 16-year-old trainee and made his debut aged just 17. He went on to make over 250 appearances for the London outfit. His consistent performances as a youngster earned him three England U-21 caps. In 2001 he left the Addicks to join Wolves on a four-year contract for a fee of £850,000, plus a possible further £300,000 depending on appearances. A speedy winger, Newton made himself an instant hit with the Molineux faithful, scoring on his debut against Portsmouth. He played an important role in earning them promotion in 2003, but couldn't save them from going straight back down a year later. In March 2005 he left Wolves to sign for West Ham for an initial fee of £10,000 and was quickly nicknamed 10K by the fans in reference to his fee, which later rose to £125,000. Made his Hammers debut against Reading at the Madejski Stadium in a 1-3 defeat 12th March 2005. Newton became an integral part of Alan Pardew's side as they reached the Barclays Premiership through the play-offs. In July 2006, his career was derailed when he was banned for seven months, backdated to 20th May 2006, after testing positive for cocaine following West Ham’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Middlesbrough in April 2006. He remained with the club during his ban, but only made five further appearances. He joined Leicester City on loan in March 2007 until the end of the season, a move made permanent in the close season.

West Ham United completed the signing of goalkeeper Roy Carroll from Manchester United in June 2005. Carroll had joined United three years earlier from Wigan Athletic. Various injuries to Barthez gave him a number of spells in the first-team at Old Trafford, and he rarely let them down. There were even calls for him to stay as first choice, due to the erratic form of the Frenchman. In 2002/03, he started and finished the season in goal for United, covering for Barthez's injury in August, and replacing him in April and May after poor performances against Real Madrid. However, with the arrival of Tim Howard, Carroll found himself sitting on the bench again the following season, apart from a brief run in the team in 2004. In 2004/05 he was first choice for most of the season after some mistakes by Howard. He was mostly solid, but made some high profile and costly errors, particularly against AC Milan in the Champions League. He was also fortunate when he dropped a long-range shot from Pedro Mendes over the goal-line, as the officials wrongly gave no goal. However, these mistakes plus Carroll's unwillingness to sign a new contract led to him leaving Old Trafford in May 2005, and a month later he joined the Hammers. Making his West Ham debut against Blackburn Rovers 13th August 2005 in a 3-1 victory at Upton Park. With Robert Green confining Carroll to second choice ‘keeper he asked to be released at the end of 2006-07 campaign because he wanted first team football.

Danny began his career at West Bromwich Albion before joining Cardiff City in September 2000. He quickly established himself as a mainstay at Ninian Park where he made 217 appearances for the Bluebirds. Joined Barclays Premiership new-boys West Ham United in July 2005 along with fellow countryman and former club mate James Collins in a £3m deal. Made his Hammers bow against Blackburn Rovers at Upton Park 13th August 2005 in a 3-1 victory. Danny was a solid figure in the Cardiff City back line for the past two seasons after overcoming some serious back problems in the previous campaign. After joining West Brom from school, he graduated through the trainee ranks to take his first steps in League football in 1998-99, when he made two League appearances. He started the following season as Albion's first-choice right-back, where he performed with distinction before a loss of form, coupled with a nagging shin injury, cost him his place. Nonetheless, West Brom gave Danny a contract that tied him to the Hawthorns until 2003. However, in August 2000 he was transferred to Cardiff City for £175,000 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the Bluebirds defence, as he went on to forge an outstanding central-defensive partnership with young James Collins. Won his first cap for Wales against the Czech Republic in March 2002, but suffered a dip in form following Wales' exit from the Euro 2004 Championships, which he felt deeply. Selected in the PFA's First Division team of the season in 2003-04, Danny continued to flourish at club and international levels, showing great awareness and a composure on the ball that had him earmarked for a higher grade of football. That chance came when Alan Pardew pounced to secure his services in August 2005, and the cultured defender has been one of the outstanding success stories in their first season back in the Premiership.

A left-sided defender holds the honour of being the youngest player ever to make a Charlton Athletic first-team appearance during the 1997/98 season when only 16 years 93 days old. Made his England Under 21s debut in February 2002. Started the 2002/03 season in explosive form, scoring against Chelsea before being controversially sent off. A Hammers fan and former member of the West Ham United Academy, Paul made his full England debut at Upton Park in a friendly against Australia in February 2003. He then struggled to hold down a regular place in the Addicks team, despite some impressive performances, grew frustrated with not being allowed to play left-back. In the summer of 2003, he handed in a transfer request, saying that he needed to get regular first team football in his favoured position to help him push his way into the England squad. On the final day of the summer transfer window he moved to Tottenham Hotspur on an initial one-month loan deal, with Spurs defender Chris Perry moving to the Valley. Both players were keen to make the move more permanent, but the managerial situation at Spurs and the closed transfer window make that a difficult possibility. However he was recalled just before Christmas as Charlton's injury problems meant Alan Curbishley needed him as cover. He featured in almost every single one of the Addicks' remaining games of the season, and despite being linked with a move away from The Valley, Alan Curbishley wanted to hang on to the defender. Konchesky transferred from the Addicks to West Ham United, the team he had supported as a child, in July 2005 for a fee of £1.5 million on a long-term deal. “Konch” made his Hammers debut against Blackburn Rovers at Upton Park 13th August 2005 in a 3-1 victory. He made 45 league and cup appearances in the 2005-06 season, helping West Ham to ninth place in the Premier League and to the 2006 FA Cup Final, where he scored when his cross went straight into the net but later had a spot kick saved as West Ham went down to Liverpool on penalties after drawing 3-3 after extra time. He lost his place in the first team during the 2006-07 season, making only 25 appearances, as West Ham slipped into the relegation places and only secured their place in the Premier League on the final day of the season. After leaving West Ham, Konchesky fired a parting shot at manager Alan Curbishley claiming that he made the players unhappy. Konchesky signed for Fulham on 13th July 2007 for a fee that could rise to £3.25m

West Ham manager Alan Pardew completed the signing of Racing Santander midfielder Yossi Benayoun in July 2005. The 25-year-old Israeli international signed a four-year deal with the Hammers after completing his £2.5million switch to the Barclays Premiership new boys. Benayoun started with career with Hapoel Beer Sheva, after two years at the Ajax Academy. He moved on to Maccabi Haifa, where he became a real star of the Israeli league making 130 appearances and scoring 55 goals. In 2002, Benayoun moved to Racing de Santander in Spain. After 101 appearances and 21 goals Santander opted to cash in on Benayoun by selling him to his agents for 3.5m Euros. Benayoun rejected a 5m Euro move to CSKA Moscow, preferring to move to England or remain in Spain. This sparked a great deal of interest in the player from leading English clubs, but newly promoted West Ham United emerged with the signature of the Israel captain, signing in July 2005 for £2.5m and a four-year contract. Made his Premiership debut for the Hammers against Blackburn Rovers at Upton Park 13th August 2005 in a 3-1 victory on the opening day of the season. Under manager Alan Pardew, Benayoun flourished, producing skilful performances and goals. He also scored a last minute goal that stoppedtheir bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur qualifying for the Champions League in the infamous food poisoning match. Benayoun played in the 125th FA Cup Final against European Champions Liverpool. In 63 League appearances for the Hammers he scored 8 goals. Benayoun moved to Liverpool under controversial circuumstances. Yossi had verbally agreed a new five-year deal with West Ham in May 2007, only to go back on the agreement in a bid to move to the Merseyside club. The controversy was heightened on 10th July 2007 when Benayoun’s agent had agreed a deal with Liverpool which meant that the player was taking a lower pay than the £50,000 a week offered by the Hammers. Yossi signed for the Reds on 12th July 2007 for a reported fee of £5m.

Jeremie came to the attention of Gunners fans after scoring nine goals during Arsenal's FA Youth Cup winning run of 2000/01 - a feat only equaled by Michael Owen back in 1996. The stylish Arsenal striker was extremely dangerous in the box. After graduating from the Clairefontaine soccer Academy, Jeremie had high hopes of breaking into Arsenal’s first team on a regular basis and following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry. He made three substitute appearances in the 2002/03 season, and managed to net his first senior goal for Arsenal in the last minute against West Bromwich Albion. The following season he started seven games, scoring four goals - all in the Carling Cup. In the 2004/05 campaign he made only a handful of appearances, mainly towards the end of the season as the Gunners' hopes of title success dwindled. In the summer of 2005, he joined Celtic on loan for the season, though only made a handful of appearances before returning to the Barclays Premiership with West Ham, the Hammers taking over the loan deal on 25th August 2005. Jeremie made his Hammers debut as a 59th minute substitute in the 1-2 home defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers 27th August 2005. However in January 2006 Aliadiere was allowed to rejoin the Gunners where he was swiftly loaned out again, this time to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Later played for Middlesbrough.

A highly rated French forward, Bellion first arrived in English football with Sunderland in July 2001 having spent a prolific two-year spell with French side Cannes. After two productive years on Wearside, Bellion attracted the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson who paid £2 million to take him to Old Trafford in July 2003. The 22-year-old has shown plenty of promise during his time with Manchester United, but unable to hold down a regular place in the first-team, he was delighted to join Alan Pardew's new generation of Premiership stars at Upton Park. David made his Hammers debut 20th September 2005 as a 65th minute substitute in the 4-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. He only made a handful of appearances however, before leaving in January 2006 to go back to United, later went to Nice on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Graduate of the Hammers' highly-respected Youth Academy, Tony has made great strides in the 2004-05 campaign to become a valued member of Tony Carr's Under-18 squad and a regular at reserve team level. Tony had been with the Club since the age of 11 and originally began as an out-and-out striker, but soon began to evolve as an attacking midfielder and link-man behind the front-runners. Made his first-team debut for the Club as a late substitute in the Carling Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday 20th September 2005. During the 2005-06 season, Stokes was loaned to Conference National side Rushden & Diamonds, where he was gaining rave reviews for his all-action performances in the centre of midfield. He then joined Football League One side Brighton & Hove Albion in a one moth loan deal in August 2006, which was extended to two months but decided to return to the Hammers after finding first-team opportunities at Brighton difficult. His next loan stop in November 2007 was to play for Stevenage Borough for two-months. He scored his first career goal in the 3-1 win over Salisbury in December 2007. Clarke joined Stoke City as a trainee in 1996, making his first-team debut three years later. Quick and comfortable on the ball, Clive was an immediate hit at the Victoria Ground and went on to captain the side. A left-sided player who can also play in the centre of defence or midfield, Clarke made 259 appearances and scored 10 goals in his time at Stoke. The County Wicklow-born defender won his first full cap for the Republic of Ireland against Jamaica in June 2004. West Ham completed the signing of the Stoke captain for £275,000 in August 2005. Making his Hammers bow against Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium in the Carling Cup 0-1 defeat 26th October 2005. Having made just three competitive appearances for the Club following his move - two in the Premiership against Arsenal (away) and Portsmouth (home), and one in the Carling Cup away at Bolton Wanderers. The Republic of Ireland international was unfortunate to find Paul Konchesky in such impressive and consistent form throughout the season. Clive headed to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light in search of regular first team football along with £600,000 as part of the deal with brought Northern Ireland international George McCartney to Upton Park in August 2006.

A fast raiding striker who can play through the middle or wide on the wing, Yaniv joined Maccabi Haifa at the age of nine and he quickly emerged as a special talent finishing as the club's leading scorer in every year as he worked his way up through the junior ranks. Such was his progress that Yaniv - which means ‘small' in Hebrew but a name not born out by his developing physique - had become a regular in the Club's senior squad by the time he was 16-years-old, making 32 appearances in his first season 1998-99 and scoring one goal. Recommended to Alan Pardew by Yossi Benayoun, who has played with him for Israel, the Hammers beat a host of European clubs who were showing interest in the striker, signing him for a bargain £100,000 fee on a four-year contract from Maccabi Haifa when the January 2006 transfer window opened. Katan made his Hammers debut as an 80th minute substitute in the 2-1 victory against Norwich City at Carrow Road in FA Cup Third Round 7th January 2006. Unable to make an impression at Upton Park he was allowed to re-join Maccabi Haifa at the end of the season.

A powerful, strong running striker who became West Ham United's Club record signing when he arrived from Norwich City this January in a £7million deal. Dean joined Crewe Alexandra as a youngster and, under the watchful eye of Dario Gradi, progressed through the ranks to make his introduction into League football in the 2000-01 season, scoring eight goals in 21 Division One appearances. Having established himself in the Crewe side, Dean was promoted from the trainee ranks to full professional status on 2nd February 2001. Left Gresty Road in January 2005, to become Norwich City's record signing at £3million. Thrust straight into the Premiership, he made his Canaries debut on January 15, 2005 in a 3-0 defeat at Villa Park and it was in his sixth game that he executed his first strike in the Premiership, in the 12th minute of the 3-2 home defeat by Manchester City. He opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United and in his 16 Premiership games finished as the Canaries' joint top scorer with seven goals .This season his progress was interrupted by a sickening fractured forehead, but back in the action Dean claimed his second League hat-trick with a blistering performance in the 3-1 home win over Southampton on December 17, before Alan Pardew went all out to make him the most expensive player at Upton Park at the time. Argentine international defender who signed on loan for the rest of the season from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna, just minutes before the close of the January transfer window this year. The 27-year-old right-back arrived as a direct replacement for the departing Tomas Repka, and is described as similar in style and physique to the former Czech favourite. A full international with five caps for Argentina, Lionel joined Deportivo from Estudiantes in March 1998 and has made more than 250 appearances for the Spanish outfit, including over 50 games in the Champions League during the past five seasons. The man from Argentina signed on loan from Deportivo on 31st January 2006, the final day of the January transfer window. Deciding that he needed first team football to have a chance at attending the upcoming World Cup, he accepted the opportunity of joining West Ham on loan for the second half of the 2005-06 season. He took the number 2 shirt from the departed Tomas Repka, and made his full Premiership debut against Sunderland in a 2-0 Upton Park win on 4th February 2006. Three months later Scaloni reached The FA Cup Final with the Hammers but lost on penalties to Liverpool after extra time at the Millennium Stadium ended 3-3. Scaloni left West Ham after the East London club could not agree a deal with Deportivo over a permanent move and rejoined Deportivo La Coruna in June 2006. Later played for Racing Santander, Lazio and RCD Mallorca.

Former Preston North End defender who put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Upton Park on 5th July 2006 to became Alan Pardew's second signing in the space of a few hours following the arrival of Carlton Cole from Chelsea on the same day. The highly-rated young defender signed for an initial £1million fee, which could rise to £1.9million depending on appearances and future international recognition with England. Tyrone began his career as a youth trainee at Manchester City and progressed through the ranks to break into the first team squad under Kevin Keegan in March 2002. Just a few months later, in search of regular first team football, he moved to Preston North End in a £200,000 deal. After an impressive debut campaign with the Lilywhites, injury restricted his bid to become an established member of the side over the next two seasons, and forced him to miss the Championship play-off final against the Hammers in May 2005. However, he returned to full fitness the following summer and made the right-back spot his own at Deepdale as Preston again came within a whisker of winning promotion via the play-offs, only to lose against Leeds United in their semi-final. Having earned a reputation as one of the most exciting young prospects outside of the Premiership, the all-action defender got his chance to prove his worth at the top level, while his arrival further enhances the impressive collection of young English talent at Upton Park. However, he was only to make six league and cup appearances for West Ham as he struggled to break into the first team. With less opportunities of first class football Tyrone joined Derby County on 31st January 2007 on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the deal permanent. On 4th July 2007, six months after joining the Rams on loan he finally signed for £1m.

After West Ham were relegated at the end of the 2002/03 season, Bowyer joined Newcastle United on a free transfer in July 2003. In April 2005, Bowyer was in the media spotlight again after an on-pitch brawl with teammate Kieron Dyer in Newcastle United's Premiership match with Aston Villa. This resulted in a red card, plus a further three game ban; Dyer received the same punishment. Bowyer was fined six weeks' wages by the club. Dyer was not fined as Bowyer was perceived to have thrown the first punch. In June 2005, Bowyer was charged in connection with the brawl by Northumbria Police with public order offences, under section four of the Public Order Act. In July 2006 he was fined £600 and ordered to pay £1000 in costs after admitting to using threatening behaviour towards Dyer. Bowyer made 98 appearance for Newcastle in all competitions, scoring eleven goals. Bowyer rejoined the Hammers in June 2006 for an undisclosed fee. He made 22 appearances in the 2006/07 season, which was disrupted by a dislocated shoulder suffered in West Ham United's 6–0 loss to Reading in January 2007. However, Bowyer made a quick and sooner-than-expected recovery and played in several of West Ham's crucial games towards the end of the season. He regained a regular place in the Hammers first team at the beginning of the 2007–08 season, but by Janaury 2009 he was loaned out to Birmingham City for the remainder of that campaign. Lee was released by the Hammers on 3rd June 2009.

Ghanaian international signed from Israeli side Hapoel Tel-Aviv this summer in a deal that could rise to £1million. The 25-year-old defender agreed a four-year contract at Upton Park after impressing on a brief trial with Alan Pardew’s men. A versatile defender who starred for Ghana at the World Cup finals in Germany 2006. John is recognised as a right-back but has also featured in central defence and at left back for his country. He began his career in Ghana at Berekum Arsenal FC before moving to Liberty Professionals. He then headed to Europe for a brief spell with Polish side Widzew Lodz, before joining Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2002, where he won the Israeli title and reached the Israeli Cup final in his first season. In December 2004, he signed permanently for Hapoel Tel Aviv after completing a short loan move across town from Maccabi. John had 25 full international caps to his name when he was recommended to Hammers by his former colleague in the Israeli league, Yossi Benayoun, John became Alan Pardew’s fifth summer signing. West Ham took the opportunity to clear up the confusion surrounding the correct spelling of the defender's surname. Despite John's admittance that he has spelt his surname as Paintsil in the past - including while playing for Ghana in the World Cup finals in Germany - the fact remains that the spelling on his official documentation is PANTSIL. Therefore, his work permit was issued under the name of Pantsil, he was registered with the Premier League as Pantsil, and his contract of employment at the Club is in the name of Pantsil. For this reason, the Club have no other option but to use that spelling of John's name and, as supporters will have noticed, that includes the official spelling on the back of his playing shirt. Having agreed with the spelling of his name when he signed his playing contract at Upton Park. John made his Hammers debut as a second half substitue against Charlton Athletic at Upton Park in a 3-1 victory 19th August 2006. John made only seven appearances for the Hammers during the 2006/07 season and in the summer of 2007 was weighing up his options in order to ensure his place in the Ghana national team for the 2008 African Cup of Nations. However, the defender remained at Upton Park. The following July, with the majority of his 24 games for West Ham being substitute appearances, Pantsil along with team-mate Bobby Zamora were given permission to speak to Fulham and both signed on the 15th July 2008 for a combined £6.3m.

Highly-rated England under-21 striker, who signed for an undisclosed fee from Premiership champions Chelsea in July 2006 to add further firepower to the Hammers front line. A product of the youth academy system at Stamford Bridge, 22-year-old Carlton made his first team debut for our London rivals as an 18-year-old substitute against Everton in April 2002, and then scored on his first start just weeks later against Middlesbrough. The following season, he enjoyed a brief loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers but still managed to make 16 league and cup appearances for Chelsea, before heading out on loan again at the start of the 2003-04 campaign, to Charlton Athletic on a season-long deal. After five goals in 22 appearances for Alan Curbishley's men, Carlton returned to Stamford Bridge hoping for an opportunity under new coach Jose Mourinho but, following the £24million signing of Didier Drogba that summer, he was forced to head for pastures new again in search of regular first team football. This time, it was Aston Villa who snapped up the promising young striker on a 12-month loan spell, during which time Mourinho saw enough to declare that Cole would be staying put at Stamford Bridge for the 2005-06 campaign, as Chelsea attempted to retain their Premiership title and add European Champions League glory to the pot. However, with Drogba and Hernan Crespo scoring regularly, Carlton again found his chances restricted last season. He made nine substitute appearances in the Premiership and scored on his one and only start - a 2-1 FA Cup third round win over Huddersfield Town. Throughout his time at Stamford Bridge, the Surrey-born striker has remained a regular on the international scene with England, appearing for the under-19 and under-20 sides, and scoring four goals in 15 appearances for the under-21 team. Made his Hammers debut as a 90th minute substitute against Charlton Athletic at Upton Park 19th August 2006. After three seasons with the Irons Carlton made the progression to the senior England team against Spain in February 2009.

Tevez became the Hammers most controversial signing of all-time. A striker, who made his name with Argentine giants Boca Juniors and later in Brazil with Corinthians. Regarded as one of the most promising prospects in the world. Like Argentine team-mate Lionel Messi, he has been labelled as the "new Diego Maradona and Maradona himself, once described Tevez as the "Argentinean prophet for the 21st century". He was born and raised in the humble neighbourhood of Ejercito de Los Andes, known as the Fuerte Apache, from where he got the nickname of Apache. Tevez joined Boca Juniors at the age of thirteen and played his first professional match with Boca on October 21, 2001 against Talleres de Córdoba. He played for the team until the end of 2004. With Boca Juniors he has won the Argentine Championship in 2003, a Copa Libertadores (2003), the Intercontinental Cup (2003) and a Copa Sudamericana (2004). One of the greatest achievements of Tévez's career so far has been his gold medal won at the 2004 Olympic Games. He scored eight goals in six matches to be the top scorer of the competition. That same year he also helped Argentina take the runners-up spot in the 2004 Copa America. The Argentine Football Writers chose him as Footballer of the Year in 2003 and 2004, and also Sportsman of the Year (2004). In the same year, Tevez was the world's second top goal scorer in international competitions, with 16 goals. In December 2004, he transferred to Sport Club Corinthians Paulista for £20 million. The deal was the biggest transfer ever in South American football. After a relatively quiet start, Tevez became the captain and star of the team that won the 2005 Brazilian League and the fans' favorite player. Tevez was selected for the Argentinean 2006 World Cup squad and just over a month later, Tevez left his club, Corinthians and together with Argentine team-mate Javier Mascherano, joined West Ham United on 31st August 2006, transfer deadline day. The pair were signed for an undisclosed fee and put pen to paper on permanent contracts with the Club. Tevez made his Hammers debut on 10th September 2006 by coming on as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. In Apri 2007, after West Ham were fined a record £5.5 million for breaching Premier League rules over the signings of Tévez and Mascherano, Tévez was cleared to play for the Hammers by the Premier League after changes were made to a third party agreement related to him. That same month Tevez was named Hammer of the Year. In relegation-threatened West Ham's season finale against Manchester United on 13th May, Tevez scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory, securing the Hammers' stay in the top flight for the next year and sending Sheffield United into the Fizzy Pop League. August 2007 Tevez agreed to join Manchester United in a deal worth £20 million, which was subject to an appeal from the Hammers. West Ham said in turn that they would block any transfer unless they received a majority of the transfer fee. The next day, West Ham released a statement that Tévez was under contract until June 2010, in addition to denying having held negotiations with any other club. Joorabchian contradicted the claim by saying that West Ham had indeed given permission to United to engage in talks. Manchester United and West Ham sought FIFA's assistance to rule on Tevez's ownership, but on 24th July, FIFA suggested that the case be referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Joorabchian intervened by issuing West Ham with a High Court writ "...to compel West Ham to release the registration of Carlos Tevez in accordance with contracts entered into between the parties." However, the case never made it to court as the Premier League approved an agreement between West Ham and MSI, in which MSI would pay £2 million to West Ham, who in turn released Tevez from his contract. Sheffield United however lauched there own attack on the Boleyn club by claiming £50m in loss earning following relegation…. To be continued!

Javier Mascherano was a highly-rated defensive midfielder who earned rave reviews for his performances at the World Cup finals in the summer, when he provided the steely backbone behind Argentina's attacking style of play. Like his good friend Tevez, Mascherano left Argentinian club - River Plate, the great rivals of Boca Juniors - to join Corinthians in 2004, for a fee of $15million, and helped to play a key role in their title success last year. With 20 caps for the national team, he is considered one of the county's hottest properties. Together with Argentine team-mate Carlos Tevez, joined West Ham United on 31st August 2006, transfer deadline day. The pair were signed for an undisclosed fee and put pen to paper on permanent contracts with the Club. Javier made his west Ham bow against Palermo in the UEFA Cup which resulted in a 0-1 reverse at Upton Park. The move to the Hammers was seen as surprising, with many of Europe's top clubs having been linked with Mascherano all summer. There were many rumours about the nature of the transfer, primarily regarding Media Sports Investment's interest in buying-out West Ham. Rumours included speculation as to whether West Ham truly owned the players, and also that if a high enough (£112 million was touted) offer was received West Ham would be forced to sell. (It has since been discovered that Global Soccer Agencies and Mystere Services are the companies that owned Mascherano.) Before Mascherano joined, the Hammers had won one game, drawn one and lost one. However upon his arrival the team went into free-fall, losing eight games and drawing one game in all competitions before their next win on 29th October. During this time, Mascherano rarely featured in the team, despite their struggles, prompting rumours about financial clauses related to the amount of time he was actually played. On 16th January 2007, Liverpool requested clearance from FIFA to take Mascherano on loan from West Ham. FIFA's rules state that no player can play for more than two different clubs between 1st July and 30th June the following year, but Mascherano had already played for both Corinthians and West Ham during this time. FIFA approved the deal on 31st January 2007. However, although Liverpool submitted his registration details before the midnight transfer deadline, the Premier League did not immediately announce whether it would allow Mascherano to play for Liverpool, saying that it wanted to "take time to satisfy itself with the proposed arrangements". In a further twist, it was announced on 2nd March that the Premier League were charging West Ham with breaking rule B13, concerning acting in good faith, and rule U18, which concerns the influence of third-party ownership. On 27th April the Premier League issued West Ham a world-record fine of £5.5 million.

USA international defender who joined the Hammers in a £500,000 move from Manchester United 15th June 2006. Born and raised in Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago, Jonathan moved to England at the age of 17 to join Manchester United in the summer of 2003 and made his senior debut just a year later, in the Community Shield against Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium. He went on to make seven appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side in the 2004-05 campaign, including two in the Champions League against Dinamo Bucharest and Fenerbahce. In November 2004, he made his full international debut for the USA, as a substitute in a World Cup qualifying clash against Jamaica. Jonathan had departed from Old Trafford in a bid to find regular first team football - signing for Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan spell at the start of the 2005-06 campaign. Having impressed Alan Curbishley, Jonathan began to establish himself as a regular in the Addicks side at the turn of 2006 and went on to make 20 Premiership appearances for our London rivals. However, his dreams of appearing for the USA at the World Cup finals were crushed in April, when he suffered a dislocated shoulder in Charlton's 2-1 victory over Portsmouth, an injury that ended his season. A versatile defender, who can play in a number of positions along the back-line, Jonathan is the second USA international to sign for West Ham United - after midfielder John Harkes, who made 13 appearances here in the 1995-96 season. The 26-year-old, who has agreed a four-year contract at Upton Park, became Alan Pardew's seventh summer signing - and yet another talented young English star to be added to the squad. After making his first-team debut for the Canaries in a 0-0 derby draw with Ipswich Town as a 19-year-old in April 1999, the Chertsey-born keeper went on to make almost 250 league and cup appearances for the club. He was an influential figure as Norwich won promotion to the Premiership in 2004, and was rewarded for his performances in the top flight with a call-up to the full England squad - becoming only the sixth Norwich player in history to wear the Three Lions when he appeared as a substitute against Colombia in the United States in June 2005. Since then, he has remained a regular member of the full England squad, and was set to travel to the World Cup finals in Germany this summer as a possible number two behind Paul Robinson. However, disaster struck when Robert suffered a ruptured groin minutes after appearing as a substitute in a B international against Belarus at the end of May, ruling him out of the tournament. Hammers paid the Black Cats £600,000 and added Clive Clarke to the package to secure the services of the 25-year-old left-back, who progressed through the youth ranks at the Stadium of Light to become club captain. Made his debut in the 1-2 defeat to Chesterfield in the Carling Cup at Saltergate 24th October 2006. After initially spending most of his time as substitute, he eventually became a first team regular under Alan Curbishley and his strong forward runs played a crucial role in the Hammers’ eventual escape from relegation.
