FOOTBALL LEGENDS PRESENTATION PACK (1996)
The choice of Dean, Moore, Edwards, Wright and Blanchflower to represent our football heritage comes at the end of an exhaustive search to find the Legends of Football.
To celebrate the European Championship finals played in England in June 1996. Royal Mail invited a team of football writers and experts to draw up a shortlist of ten great players. Then the public were invited to vote for their favourite five: football-lovers responded in their thousands. The poll rules stated that no living players could be considered, so masters such as Sir Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney, George Best, John Charles, Sir Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law and Kenny Dalglish had to be overlooked.
But surely the public's choice of the famous five can't be argued with. They were true giants of the game - their brilliance made football larger than life for millions in the stands.

PRIDE & PASSION WORLD CUP 2002 FIRST DAY COVER
World Cup Football Stamps

Crowned Lion of England Stamp
Design: Sedley Place
Sculpture: David Dathan
England's 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in high drama yet had began in the deepest gloom. In a bitter farewell to Wembley, defeat by Germany had led to the resignation of manager Kevin Keegan.
Enter Sven-Goran Eriksson, England's first ever foreign coach, who roused the team to secure hard-fought wins against Finland, Albania and Greece. The tide turned in September 2001, with an amazing and historic 5-1 scoreline in Munich, when Michael Owen's hat-trick was England's first the Germans since the 1966 World Cup Finals.
England leapfrogged to the top of the group but were then grateful for David Beckham's heart-stopping free kick that snatched a 2-2 draw with Greece. It was without doubt the most dramatic sporting moment of the year.
There was a genuine sense of confidence within the England side and, as the World Cup finals dawn in Korea and Japan, they had every right to travel hopefully.
Autographed by Hammers England players David James, Trevor Sinclair and Joe Cole
PRIDE & PASSION WORLD CUP 2002
PRESENTATION PACK
WORLD CUP WINNERS (2006)
2006 marks the 40th anniversary of England beating Germany in the 1966 World Cup Final, and each of the 6 stamps issued by Royal Mail features one of the six national teams that have won the Cup since 1966.
ENGLAND'S FINEST HOUR... SMILERS
The sheet is captioned "England's Finest Hour... Wembley Stadium London, 30 July 1966". Each of the labels is different, and charts the day from 1pm when the gates were opened to let in 93,000 fans, through to 5.30pm when the England team saluted the crowd and paraded the cup which had been presented to England captain, the late Bobby Moore, by Her Majesty the Queen. The centre stamp on the 4th column includes the legendary words of commentator Kenneth Wolstenhome, "Some people are on the pitch. They think it's all over .... it is now.", uttered as Geoff Hurst scored the final goal.
This Smilers sheet was to have been issued at the same time as the miniature sheet to commemorate the opening of the new Wembley Stadium. The postponement of both the opening of the new Wembley Stadium, and of the miniature sheet to commemorate that event meant a change of plans for Royal Mail.
