Our Youth Team accepted an invitation to enter the Tournament organised by the Zurich Blue Stars of Switzerland.
There were four groups in the tourney, and we won all three matches against Swiss opposition to top the group and qualify for the semi-finals. All these games took place on the same day, being of 20 minutes each way.
Our Semi-Final opponents were Hamburg SV of West Germany, Two goals from Peter Bennett and one by David James bringing a splendid 3-0 victory.
The Final was an all-English duel, Manchester United being our opposition. Roger Cross scored for the Hammers to bring a 1-1 result at the end of 40 minutes. This meant extra time of five minutes each way, but as no more goals were registered the game was decided on corners. The Manchurians had three to our one to win the trophy.
