FOOTBALL ENCYCLOPAEDIA & SOCCERSTAMP ALBUM 1971-72
No.55 Geoff Hurst
Will go down in football history as the only man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final, a feat he performed against West Germany in the 1966 World Cup. This oming season will be his 13th with his only League club. League debut against Nottingham Forest in February 1960 and has now played well over 400 matches for the club. At West ham, he has won a FA Cup winners medal in 1964, European Cup Winners Cup winners medal in 1965 and played in the losing League Cup Final side of 1966. With England he played four times for the Under-23 side, played for the Football League and now has 45 full England caps.
No.21 1st Division Club Crests
No.101 FA Cup Winners
It is a fact in sport that losers are often remembered longer than some winners, and although West Ham won the Cup in 1964 it is their losing Final which always springs to mind first. In 1923 they played in that never-to-be-forgotten first Final at Wembley, when over 200,000 are said to have watched the game plus that famous white police horse which has gone into the history books. West Ham lost to Bolton 2-0 but played their part in that momentous day. It was not until 1964 they won the Cup, when they beat Preston North End (then a Second Division side) 3-2 with a winner scored in the last minute by Ronnie Boyce
